GNCAP crash test ratings vs ADAS features — what actually protects you on Indian roads.
GNCAP stars measure crash protection
Global NCAP tests frontal offset and side impact with dummies. A 5-star rating means strong passenger cell integrity and airbag performance. 0–2 stars indicate serious structural weakness.
ADAS is not a crash test score
Features like lane assist, AEB, and blind-spot monitoring help avoid accidents — they don't replace structural safety. A car can have ADAS and still score poorly on crash tests if the body shell is weak.
What to look for in India
Minimum: 4 GNCAP stars, 6 airbags (now mandatory on new models), ESC on higher trims. For family cars, check child-seat ISOFIX and side curtain airbag availability on your specific variant — not just the model.

Are Indian-spec cars the same as tested?+
GNCAP tests Indian-market variants. However, safety kits vary by trim — a 5-star test may be on the top variant with 6 airbags while base gets 2.
