Perfect for long-distance cruising, rear seats are incredibly comfortable.
Done over 1.5 Lakh km and it still runs like new. Zero breakdowns.
Clutch is a bit heavy, miss having an automatic option in traffic.
Excellent road insulation, but the 2.4 diesel becomes noisy and booms inside the cabin when pushed hard on expressways.

Excellent fuel economy and punchy performance. The cabin is surprisingly quiet for a diesel, they have done a fantastic job with NVH levels. Suspension is perfect for bad Indian roads.
The 1.5 diesel engine in the Toyota Innova Crysta is a highway beast. The mid-range torque is addictive, makes overtaking long trucks a breeze. Plus, I easily get 18-20 km/l on long cruises.
The diesel mileage is good (around 14 km/l in city, 19 on highway), but the price gap between petrol and diesel variants is hard to justify unless your monthly running is over 1500 km.
The diesel clutch pedal in the manual version is quite heavy and has a long travel. My left knee starts aching after 30 minutes in city traffic. Wish I bought the automatic instead.
If you do a lot of highway runs, the diesel is the default choice. The MT automatic gearbox matches the engine torque perfectly. Very refined and quiet cruiser.

On the Innova Crysta, the wheelbase is about average wheelbase for its segment. Rear space is typical for cars in this segment. A longer wheelbase also reduces pitch over potholes and speed breakers.
What all those complex brochure codes actually mean in plain, practical terms.
Emergency Anti-Skid. If the vehicle senses a loss of traction (like on wet mud or when swerving to avoid an obstacle), it automatically applies brakes to individual wheels to keep you on your steered path. Essential for safety.
Roll-back Prevention. When starting the vehicle on a steep slope (like a flyover or basement mall ramp), it holds the brakes for 2 seconds after you release the pedal, giving you time to move your foot to the accelerator.
Full-Cabin Cushioning. Protects all occupants in case of an impact. Includes two front airbags, two seat-mounted side airbags, and two curtain airbags that shield front and rear passengers' heads from side window impacts.
Consistent Stopping Power. Unlike drum brakes, disc brakes dissipate heat quickly, preventing brake fade. They stop the vehicle shorter, more predictably, and with far less foot pressure.
Advanced Night Vision. LEDs throw a much whiter, wider, and brighter beam than yellow halogens, reducing eye fatigue during night highway runs. Star Map running lights make you highly visible to oncoming traffic.

Fuel cost each km
₹6.1 vs ₹8.6
Diesel ≈ ₹6.1/km · petrol ≈ ₹8.6/km in Hyderabad — you save about ₹2.5 every kilometre on diesel. ~ preview
When you recover it
23k km
If you drive about 12k km a year, fuel savings cover the extra price after roughly 1.9 years (23k km total).
Bottom line: at your usage, Creta diesel should pay for its higher purchase price in under 5 years — so diesel is a sensible pick if you keep the car that long.
