Owners love the towering driving position and aggressive design; other road users give way instantly.
Unlike the 3-door Thar, the 5-door Roxx is praised by spouses for its rear legroom and decent 447L boot.
It is built on a body-on-frame Scorpio-N chassis; low-speed ride over side-to-side bumps can toss passengers around.
The diesel delivers an acceptable 11–13 km/l in city traffic, but the petrol version gets very thirsty (7–9 km/l).

Dealers are pushing accessories and quoting long waiting periods for the diesel variants. Plus, the 10-year diesel rule in NCR makes resale value highly uncertain.
Excellent driving dynamics. Handling is sharp, steering is light in the city but weighs up nicely on the highway. High-speed stability is reassuring and gives lots of confidence.
The petrol turbo engine has got genuine punch. The AT transmission shifts are lightning-quick and smooth. Extremely fun to drive on open highway stretches.
Loving my Mahindra Thar ROXX petrol. The engine is exceptionally refined and quiet at idle, sometimes I have to check the tachometer to see if it is running. The ride is soft and comfortable.
Very practical family car. Cabin space is class-leading, dashboard layout is clean, and the panoramic sunroof makes the interior feel huge. Service costs are predictable too.

On the Thar ROXX, the wheelbase is 100 mm longer than the segment median. Expect noticeably more rear knee room and a calmer highway ride than most rivals. A longer wheelbase also reduces pitch over potholes and speed breakers.
What all those complex brochure codes actually mean in plain, practical terms.
Emergency Anti-Skid. If the vehicle senses a loss of traction (like on wet mud or when swerving to avoid an obstacle), it automatically applies brakes to individual wheels to keep you on your steered path. Essential for safety.
Roll-back Prevention. When starting the vehicle on a steep slope (like a flyover or basement mall ramp), it holds the brakes for 2 seconds after you release the pedal, giving you time to move your foot to the accelerator.
Full-Cabin Cushioning. Protects all occupants in case of an impact. Includes two front airbags, two seat-mounted side airbags, and two curtain airbags that shield front and rear passengers' heads from side window impacts.
Consistent Stopping Power. Unlike drum brakes, disc brakes dissipate heat quickly, preventing brake fade. They stop the vehicle shorter, more predictably, and with far less foot pressure.
Advanced Night Vision. LEDs throw a much whiter, wider, and brighter beam than yellow halogens, reducing eye fatigue during night highway runs. Star Map running lights make you highly visible to oncoming traffic.

Diesel often costs more to buy, but less to run. This shows how far you need to drive before fuel savings cover that extra purchase price — in plain numbers for your city.
Extra you pay upfront
₹0.58L
E Diesel diesel costs about ₹0.58L more than E petrol before you drive a kilometre.
Fuel cost each km
₹6.1 vs ₹8.6
Diesel ≈ ₹6.1/km · petrol ≈ ₹8.6/km in Hyderabad — you save about ₹2.5 every kilometre on diesel. ~ preview
When you recover it
23k km
If you drive about 12k km a year, fuel savings cover the extra price after roughly 1.9 years (23k km total).
Bottom line: at your usage, Creta diesel should pay for its higher purchase price in under 5 years — so diesel is a sensible pick if you keep the car that long.
